Truth for Vedran

Posted by
Mariana Maoduš (Waterloo, Canada) on 26 June 2013 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Probably the most subversive wall art in Sarajevo. This one is a portrait with the words “ISTINA ZA VEDRANA!” (Truth for Vedrana!).
Vedran was a soccer fan killed by police brutality, and his death has never been investigated.

Canon EOS REBEL XT 1/200 second F/6.3 ISO 400 75 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."

Gérard Beullac from Paris, France

Excellent processing which gives some predominance to the he green tones, especially her beret...

The face on the wall looks incredibly. Contrasts with tired face of woman. Nice street shot.

Great contrast between the bright and colourful (and yet sad) face of the lady - the actual reality - and the abstract grey and pretentious drawing on the wall. I wouldn't call it art, it's just politics.

A powerful statement that this lady may or may not see as she passes. Then again, she may be well aware of the controversy.

Really like the way the paisleys of her scarf and the textures of the wall make one. With hints of the city's blue light on the right side, answering the colors of that same scarf, it really makes it a strong compositional picture. Yest none of this takes away the feeling of the subject in her environment. Form and content in equal parts makes a great whole.
