Sleeping Dog and Man

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 1/1250 second F/3.5 ISO 250 11 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Even the pedestrian seems to be moving slow. The dogs of street people are perhaps the most well adjusted of all. best…jf

arvin from sari, Iran

Shadows of branches on the ground....
Looking ahead....

Why are you so blackYour work?

23 Sep 2011 12:21pm

@arvin: That is funny question that nobody ever asked me. I know some people do not like BW image and the way of processing MY BW images, but this is my style and I do not care at all what other people like or dislike. I never ask anybody why they are shooting this or that, posting bad resolution, blurry pictures.. It is up to me if I am going to like it or not, comment or not comment.

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

Love the strong contrast here - graphic and social. The dog seems resigned to resting most of the day as the world passes by.

23 Sep 2011 12:23pm

The pattern created by the shadows .... the gloomy look of the old man ...

23 Sep 2011 12:38pm

Rick from Toronto, Canada

This tree shadow grabbed my eyes even before I began to look at the two men and the dog (because I love shadow patterns and texture), and then the image began to unfold and tell its story, and I love when that happens. I'm reading the question and your answer just above my comment, and once again am reminded of how subjective any opinion is. Aside from the fact that I admire your work and the way you have made your own vision with it (including the processing), I think it is your unquestioning following of instinct and passion that makes what you do special. Just my two cents! ka-ching...

23 Sep 2011 12:39pm

@Rick: Thanks Rick, my real bro ;) Your comment came in just on the right time, for I am still thinking of above question that irritated me very much ! Like it or leave it - I would tell everyone, but please , without questioning! I am not supposed to reply especially because my replies wouldn't be / couldn't be understandable to many ! Each of my images I feel very deeply and very personally . Just imagine one thing - Yesterday I had a picture of that couple laughing, which I took in May . Yesterday Afternoon I took a walk with my friend Julia, and under one bridge we saw a young man, looking very weird, kind of meditating , or thinking . Julia said - Mao, let's go faster, I do not like this man, and look- there is nobody else around . I told her - do not worry, I will shot him before he sees us and in case something happens , there is a picture of him for police ;) We came closer, I took picture, he looked at me, and smile - Hey, I know you . I remember you when you took a pic of me and my friend on King St. It was just that young man from my yesterday picture ! Isn't that amazing !

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

The shadows on the sidewalk are so dramatic and beautiful. That is what I noticed first. I find it so heartwarming how someone who has so little will also look out for another creature, in this case his dog. Sitting there, they both seem to be so alone in the world. Great composition.
