I'm Calling You

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 1/320 second F/4.0 ISO 80 15 mm

*

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Tede from Aubenas 07, France

22 Jun 2011 8:29am

Frida from Sweden

Nice capture, I wonder what he's doing ;-)

22 Jun 2011 8:32am

@Frida: I think he got tired of browsing websites for searching for single woman, and he simply went out, sit here and calling for a woman he wants to meet and have in his life .. ;))) It looks much simpler than sending messages and chatting on website ! Do you see any sense in my vision of this scene ?

Suzanne from Melbourne, Australia

excellent!

@Eric Cousineau: interesting how we all see and feel things differently, Eric ! To me it is rather real situation I explain to Frida, and like this it's very sad to me :) Regards !

Sweet composition. Very good!

22 Jun 2011 1:14pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

Hahhaa--I love it! He doesn't need Facebook, Twitter, or any of the electronic sights shown behind him. He's old school.

22 Jun 2011 1:17pm

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

Ha! Slow news day! Great candid capture.

22 Jun 2011 1:17pm

klausZ from Kufstein, Austria

i read your explanation on that theme a few posts before! yeah a possibility, and it is much cheaper than using different kinds of tecnical communication and ... you get directly an answer! ;-)
greath depth and strong sontrasts!

22 Jun 2011 1:30pm

Rick from Toronto, Canada

I like all of these details throughout the image that still can't detract from the focus on this open-mouthed man. I can easily view this in a way that feels sad, or somewhat desperate, as he could be lonely and frustrated with being that way. Looking at him from a perspective like that, his body language could seem tight and tense, that open mouth a roar of the metaphoric lion waiting for a mate. Another fantastic layer photo!

22 Jun 2011 1:36pm

@Rick: hey, I am right here to thank you for understanding of this image. sometimes after reading comments i wish to delete a certain image when see how my vision and feeling are something totally different than vision of viewers and their comments .

Z from Shanghai, China

there is some good sense of humor-:) the guy must not be aware of all the stuff behind him but as the 3rd party observer, we know it...Lol

22 Jun 2011 1:47pm

Rick from Toronto, Canada

I live in a big city and see so many people like this guy, and there are so many symbolic elements in this shot to reinforce your feeling for the image : that "downtown living" banner, the line of human figures behind him, and just how alone he looks there. It is amazing how differently people can see the same image, but we also have no way of knowing how much time is spent in really looking : I'm sure that varies as wildly as the reactions on a given day! Off to work for me - you have a great day, M.

22 Jun 2011 1:48pm

@Rick: thanks again, Rick . Do not work too hard :)

Oleg from Podolsk, Russian Federation

Excellent photo-hunting!

22 Jun 2011 2:24pm

Jason Politte from Conway, AR, United States

Fantastic juxtaposition of the man with the banner - excellent eye!

22 Jun 2011 2:27pm

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Quite a difference between the real and the imagined. The man on the bench, bored or lonely, hardly fits the city's view of an engaged and interested populace inhabiting this space. Wonderfully observed and captured as always.

22 Jun 2011 2:46pm

Mhelene from Paris, France

Great capture !

Excellent shot. One image, so many different views and comments. Very interesting ... Well done :)

22 Jun 2011 4:56pm

Albert from Hamburg, Germany

Funny photo, and good! He seems to belong to the background, like he is part of some kind of weird art installation. Nice capture.

22 Jun 2011 5:09pm

Francisco Romero from Carbajal de la Legua, Spain

My reading here is boredom. What I find really great is the way of using the contrast in light here for the composition.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Oh my gosh...I'm glad that his mouth is no where close to my ears..! Wow!

22 Jun 2011 8:31pm

RonnyVee from Tielt, Belgium

It's a trap! The man is paralised by the special lights in front of him. He can't move no more, just scream.
Than he will slowly change into a lifeless character, and dissapear into the background! :-)
