No Loitering

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 1/8 second F/3.2 ISO 200 10 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Why letus finish as this ? Emotional shot , Phil

Powerful image of these two figures who exist in a non-place ruled by signs. The view down the empty corridor with its cold light adds to the mood.

After seeing this building (I think) once before, perhaps (?) I have gathered (I think) that it is a home for elderly and/or handicapped but I am not positive of that...the Rental Office sign sort of gives a clue....the No Loitering sign may actually be there to protect the inhabitants....or I could be entirely wrong about all of this ....So what is my comment here? - I think it is simply to say that the interpretation of an image, is sometimes largely dependant upon how much we know about taht scene...the less we know, the greater the imagination is left to impart an opinion. Imagination, in turn, is formulated by all sorts of thigs: Life experiences, attitudes, beliefs, values. Your images always give us the greatest opportunity to open up those imaginative decisions and "make a stab: at what we see....Your work is always fresh, evocative, inspiring, maddening, humourous and so excellent in total composition...So, thank you Mariana, for briniging these to us. I am proud to say I know you!

20 Jun 2011 1:47pm

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks Denny . This is a main entrance of the building-apartment where my friend lives... No retirement home or anything like that . This sign - "No Loitering" one can see everywhere, even on places where you do not get why it is placed there ...

... first i smiled, when i saw your photo and reading the sign ... than i stuckend on the old lady and so many thoughts went through my mind! how we treat our older fellow men, treat we them like lepers who are loitering in parks, streets and in front of different buildings. perhaps your photo includes the message, how we, perhaps not really treat them, but many of us think about them, as an annoying obligation and this thought makes very sad! thanks for having this thoughts!

Grandoude from Saint Quentin en Yvelines, France

21 Jun 2011 4:11pm

@Grandoude: I do not know if you understand this English word - No Loitering ! I wanted to have a full attention to this sign, and on the right side of the image to have these two persons . They are just sitting there, resting, maybe waiting for somebody, but sign indicates - please, do not stay here ! Maybe now , you can better understand the message of this thoughtful image . Well, my title was helping to these who do not understand candid / street shots ! Thanks for your attention !
