Grandma shoveling too

Canon EOS REBEL XT 1/500 second F/14.0 ISO 200 70 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

morgan from canyon Country, United States

Beautifully shot. Those two little dark accents of people are just perfect.

16 Mar 2011 5:10am

@morgan: well, I love grandma, but not this young boy passing by her, without offering a help :)

Chris Pereira from San Jose, CA, United States

Julie from Easton, United States

Hmm, could you please tell me why she is shoveling in the middle of a field? lol. A nice winter shot!

16 Mar 2011 6:08am

@Julie: The main road is far from her and others houses ... So people are shoveling just a narrow path to get to the road :) Nothing strange to me since I am familiar with this place, a place where my grandma used to live and where I would go as a child each summer for a few days :) For me it was a very first time being in this village in a winter period, and I found it so lovely and charming, with white, clear snow, not touched by any industry or other dirt :))

Ddo from Lorraine, France

OH, a cold shot when sun is making its come back. But very nice scene.

16 Mar 2011 6:11am

@Ddo: see, this scene I see as a very warm and charming ... it looks different in village than in a city ....

Pascale. from La Bonneville sur Iton, France

it reminds me my own grandma who was working so much in her garden, until her death when she was 91. But it was her reason of life. Beautiful composition, with these black slihouettes in the snowy landscape.

16 Mar 2011 9:29am

@Pascale.: that is a village where my grandma used to live ;) Thx Pascale !

Rick from Toronto, Canada

This is a very strong woman, then, because it looks like she has a long way to go to finish making what must be a connective pathway between the houses and another street... too bad it can't be a younger person doing this back-breaking work, because I think Grandma has earned the right to take it easier! Great and interesting photo, Mariana.

Having read the benefit of of your explanations, I shall settle for saying I like the working sense of the landscape, the snow and refuge beyond. Grandma looks like one of those folk who do what they gotta do and don't expect much help from no-one !

Shame on that man if he walks by that old woman and does not finish the job for her! Although, if she's anything like either of my grandmothers were, they would decline the help. ;-)
