Treasured Memories

Canon EOS REBEL XT 1/400 second F/7.1 ISO 400 260 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

It seems a little lost this grandfather! Your framing is great. Mariana nice day.

24 Nov 2010 6:27am

NaDu from Köln, Germany

I'm pleased by most of this one, especially it's well framed and the tender blueish colors bring in some coherence. However I find the reds on the right side annoying, I'd have cut or smeared them away.

24 Nov 2010 6:30am

@NaDu: that is a car light , I see nothing wrong with it , Naddu :)) Btw. I do not crop my images ;) Thx for suggestion, anyway :)

24 Nov 2010 2:01pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

Quite a different emotion on his face in this image. He's begging for attention, and this man looks straight on. Very sad...

24 Nov 2010 2:34pm

@Amanda: he is just staring at this driver, who stopped there, and do not move ... too bad for me , for I could not take a straight portrait of my "actor " . Love this face. Nothing sad here, just the way how man looks !

Mhelene from Paris, France

A superb framing ! Like in a movie !

@Matino: that is not reflection , Matino . This man is on other side of this car !

Franz from Baden, Austria

apart from finding this photo superb in and by itself (frame, colours - yes, the red too!, subject, ...) i find the comments almost as interersting. amazing what ideas and interpretations our aminus friends come up here! this is another thing i cherish about your photos, mariana - the range of emotions they contain or seem to contain!

24 Nov 2010 3:51pm

@Franz: you are right . comments are always very interesting; some ( not only for this picture, but generally ) I do not get, some confuses me; some irritates me for not feeling and understanding ; some makes me laugh or smile ... Nice way to learn more about people, their vision, their feelings and then compare their comments with their work ... It usually matches each other ...

Melocoton from Salamanca, Spain

24 Nov 2010 4:17pm

@Melocoton: Who ME> you might be kidding :) You are saying the same to others too ;)) he he

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Oh I just meant, after looking at the OTHER picture you have of the old fellow, he looked to be a fairly happy fellow...yes in THIS frame, he does not look particularly happy. And my use of the word "pretty" was not referring to his was more intended to imply the amount of happiness that his (earlier) photo displayed where he wactually was smiling.... Have I thoroughly confused you now?? :-)

24 Nov 2010 4:56pm

@Denny Jump Photo: All is fine, Danny . Thx .

Tushar Kanti Mandal from Delhi, India

Hi Mariana,

I love to see your work. Its spontaneous and dynamic. I have migrated from a different site to am3 and initially I was a bit doubtful in adapting here. But its only the works from members like you which gives me confidence and a good feel.

Have a nice time

1 Dec 2010 8:51pm

Vinay from Bangalore, India

Lovely photograph... It gives me a lot of thoughts... for e.g. I am just amazed the way the driver's shirt/jerkin sleeves have blended with the old man's collar, the driver's wrist is almost hidden!! The mirror's chrome plating gives a modern look to the otherwise old-school look of the rest of the photograph.

I actually have a question, hope you wouldn't mind answer it ;) ... which one of the 2 photographs (this and the august 2009 one) is a reflection? Why am I asking this question!!! Well... the old man's teeth made me think that one of these 2 photographs is a reflection though I couldn't make out which one actually is.

6 Dec 2010 6:38pm

@Vinay: sorry, i have no clue what you asking me ....

Vinay from Bangalore, India

The old man has only 2 teeth (what is visible). And in each of the photographs - the curent one and the August 2k9 one - the old man has similar number of teeth but on the opposite sides (right side in the current photograph and on the left side in the older one)!!! So I was of the opinion that one of them is a photograph of the old man's reflection though the clarity in the photograph proves otherwise. Was I wrong in my observation?
