The Dry Seasons in Life

Canon EOS REBEL XT 1/200 second F/16.0 ISO 400 300 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Yep it's true, people turn around as if they had diseases, as if society had nothing to do with it, as if judgement wans't inflicted everyday...they're afraid to look , they're afraid bo be asked things, or not to understand them, and above all they hate that it makes them feel like theyhave to throw money a them, so as not to appear to the great superior masses, selfish and mean... and Ihave sympathy for those superior masses who sooner or later, will be the ones withthe hands out...I love this photo, I love the message that come acknowledge them, you photograph them, atta girl

15 Sep 2010 1:16pm

15 Sep 2010 2:11pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

I look at this image and I think about how we hurry through life--time moves quickly. We focus on moving forward to the "new" and forgetting and getting rid of the "old". This is further shown through the "Sale" sign to get rid of old, unwanted clothes. The "Seasons" sign showing that time marches on, and seasons change. And this old, unwanted man...people try to ignore and get rid of him, but still he remains. Reminding us that we cannot ignore or run past reality.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

Mariana it just never ceases to amaze me how you catch the perfect image at the perfect spot to tell the perfect story. I am simply in awe of your marvelous, marvelous work. The stories this image could conjure up...or perhaps nothing, but we are not unaffected...I can not imagine anyone viewing this and not having some process of thought and consd=ideration to follow. To me, the forlorn appearance matches the words but I also agree with above - he probably could care less...he's just moving because that is what he does day after day...anyone who has a "job" does the same thing, so are we any better than this man? I don't think so...Wonderful, Mariana!

15 Sep 2010 4:05pm

Graham Russon from Cape Town, South Africa

5 stars, excellent shot

15 Sep 2010 4:06pm

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

A great B&W processing here. The guy's shadow seems to over-emphasize the fact that he may have some back problems. :-|

15 Sep 2010 4:12pm

melocoton from Spain

dura escena de nuestra sociedad, gran b/w

15 Sep 2010 4:20pm

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

This is a very powerful image. The man seems to be following his shadow as it sinks deeper into despair. The B&W heightens this mood or feeling. A great one for sure.

15 Sep 2010 4:46pm

Thea from Leeuwarden, Netherlands

As always, everything fits on this beautiful shot! Impressive!

15 Sep 2010 4:58pm

?????? from Canada

Crap title and crap photos. the focus is lame! Poor presentation all round! All sitting in the middle like a total amateur photographer. You are not improving, just your loud mouth attitude. Poor little Mariana, are you still living in a mental hospital? roflmao

15 Sep 2010 5:12pm

@??????: why are you paying attention to my crap photos ? just do not come here and do not look at them . what is your intention of writing these comments ? This is a second one . Is that some jealousy ? Since you are hiding behind these ????? I assume you are ashamed to show your pictures. Also, I would really like to know why you hate me ? What is the problem ? If you are from AM3 , I only can think of 1 person . And if you continue writing these comments I will say openly who you are !!!!! Maybe that ULIAZ who was constantly on my page before , hiding behind this name .

Milhi from Caslav, Czech Republic

A strange man about his season :-)

neslusaj toga primitivnoga, ova ti je slika perfect. Covijek je na ljievo i ide prema desno, tamo kuda ga vodi pogled, izgleda kao da ime svet na ramenima i svijetlo je odlicno isto, izvaredna slika za mene.

anonymous comment of a coward!

15 Sep 2010 5:33pm

@10Fraction: NO, I do not care for her comment above, but what piss me off is that she is appearing all the time on my page with very nasty comments . I know that the picture is good . I would not post it if not ;) Thx a lot .

✿ Anina ✿ from New Zealand

Excellent work, Mariana! I like the processing a lot, it works so well with the sad looking figure. Everybody carries burdens, some just carries more others. My favorite part of the photo is probably where the shadow is... ahead of him... almost as if he can't even keep up with his own shadow anymore. Very, very well captured!

15 Sep 2010 10:46pm

i love the shadow and how it seems to disappear into the window. the man's posture suggests he is barely there anyway. he is off-season, on mark-down, no longer standing tall and fresh in the window.
you do wonderful work, mariana.
