"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Larry Elkins from Bisbee, United States

A lovely play on what is and what is not reality.

26 Aug 2010 1:29pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

hmm..does this older couple look at the image and wish their relationship was similar? do they both secretly wish they could forget the past, grab each other's hands and embrace? Perhaps a long life together of pains and heartache has driven them emotionally and physically apart...makes me sad.

26 Aug 2010 1:50pm

@Amanda: Great thoughts and words Amanda. You got me . Tahnks God somebody ( you and Dana ) see it the same way as I do ;))

Dana from Burbank, United States

Classic L.A. What appears to be an east Indian elderly couple sits with the utmost restraint by a poster of a young pair engaged in massive PDA, or public displays of affection. Fantastic.

26 Aug 2010 2:20pm

@Dana: Thanks Dana. Your and above, Amanda's comment gave me a hope that picture could be understood on a way I see it ! All above comments are total failure :)) Many thanks .

KriKridesign from Cully, Switzerland

Inside a photo museum? clever in a way...

26 Aug 2010 2:29pm

very beautiful ,and so romantic shot !! mariana !
five stars !
kiss !

26 Aug 2010 2:29pm

Larry Lefever from Lititz, United States

Well seen, Mariana!

26 Aug 2010 2:33pm

@Larry Lefever: Thanks, but what do you see Larry ? I see hands . What about you ?

Sonia Nansid from Barcelona Stockholm, Sweden

Hmmm! I dont know really...everything is so relative. I see that image more as the old couple looking at the young ones from the poster and thinking: Poor things, they still have so much to learn... they are still so into "attachment"! Attachment and love are two very different things...

26 Aug 2010 2:41pm

@Sonia Nansid: That could be another story, of course ! Or, maybe they are looking at this poster thinking of their youth back in India !

Sara from Jackson, WI, United States

Couldn't figure out what was real at first...the people walking and on the bench are in front of the large image of the couple? Cool pov..the couple on the bench look sad and disconnected somehow...they seem to be having an intense discussion about their lives maybe? Very nice capture :)

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Absolutely fabulous! The faces on the young lovers are radiant; she has a stunning profile. I love the clasped hands and the folded arms of the older couple; what a story there.

An intriguinbg composition where it took me a few seconds to determine which people were real and which were part of an advertisement. I love the sepia tones in this processing as well.

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

So many delightful conflicts in this to confuse the mind and trick the eye . . the success is due to your ability to make it read as the one image, the one moment.

Pure Happyness!

26 Aug 2010 7:38pm

Philip from South Wales, United Kingdom

I am confused. Are the young couple a picture, a projection or a figment of your/our imagination? The older couple seem non-plussed! Very strong image this and nice b&w.

26 Aug 2010 7:38pm

@Philip: ha ha .. I was confused too when was on a mall a few days ago and saw all the changes they did for the new coming season - Fall. All halls are covered with these enormous posters, that I liked and I was glad I had my little camera to take quickly a few shots. One of these is this one . Soon I will post a few more with the same 'confusion' about the size of the poster .

Graham Russon from Cape Town, South Africa

First class shot, just perfect.

28 Aug 2010 2:05pm

great, the situation is very paradoxical. Indians people don't like to show on public their feelings, almost indian couples. The confrontation is very poetic, par procuration en quelque sorte.

28 Aug 2010 6:02pm

Cory from Phoenix, United States

Really great moment. The contrast between the "large young" couple and the "smaller real" couple is strong.

@Punit: even better title ????? what a comment ! I am not a writer that I need a comment on the title or some additional stories !

Sof from Neuchâtel, Switzerland

Encore une que j'aime beaucoup

31 Aug 2010 9:15am

Punit from Wanderer, India

Mariana, actually when I saw this capture of yours, I liked it. But when I saw the title "Hands" and looked at the capture again, I observed the hands of the young and the old couples, I realised how just the hands of everyone in the capture shows the difference of age, mindset and probably culture (the elderly couple looks more like an orthodox indian couple). And thus, my comment on your title.

PS: Sorry - new to aminus3 and dont know how to reply to a response to a comment!

1 Sep 2010 4:14am

@Punit: thanks for reply ! I appreciate it very much ;)
