Sunday Dinner Invitation

Canon EOS REBEL XT 1/250 second F/7.1 ISO 400 75 mm

*

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Bettina from Los Angeles, United States

Amazing capture! You are amazing. You must roam the streets all the time. Or you are the luckiest person in the planet. Fantastic capture. He is something else. :)

1 Aug 2010 5:10am

@Bettina: I recently got an email from a friend-photographer who said : "No one looks at people the way you do because it is impolite, so you get to look at them for us. That is what artists do--show us the obvious things that we are afraid to look at for ourselves."

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Great to end the night with a good laugh. Love his socks; he must have picked them out himself.

You certainly don´t have to go back for the right lighting. This street shot is perfect (as yours always are). But he isn´t dressed for sunday dinner...or? I don´t know much about Canadian manners. :-)

I haven't commented on your images lately but I have stopped by to see your excellent work. Another good street scene that has wide range of stories within it. Thanks, for sharing your gift!

1 Aug 2010 12:03pm

@Monte Stevens: thx Monte :)

QB from Canada

He must be Canadian, because no tourist dresses this way... which makes the "Canada" T-shirt quite funny. For a Canadian to wear a T-shirt of Canada, while in Canada. He seems very amused at the photographer. It's also a piece of history. How many more years before there are no more phones like this?

1 Aug 2010 12:41pm

@QB: All these T-shirts with sign - Canada look so ridiculous to me . NO matter who is wearing them , kids or old people, it really looks awful !

Philip from South Wales, United Kingdom

That's one big chicken! Nice one.

1 Aug 2010 12:42pm

Soheil from Tehran, Iran

lovely photo

1 Aug 2010 12:47pm

Don from spokane, United States

A fine capture of the interesting dress of our seniors these days. The telephone itself is surprisingly new and in excellent shape. They seem to be disappearing around my town.

1 Aug 2010 1:00pm

Carmen from Madrid, Spain

hahaha hahaha Great capture!

1 Aug 2010 1:30pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

This image is amusing for so many reasons. First, I have not seen anyone use a payphone in YEARS! And then of course, this outfit. Thanks for the smile! :-)

1 Aug 2010 1:32pm

@Amanda: payphone is still alive here .. not silly to me :) it is more silly to be so obsessed with cellphone that people even go to the toilet with them ;)

Jacqueline from Montréal, Canada

very funny !
the parallel between his legs and the chicken is stunning

1 Aug 2010 1:40pm

@Jacqueline: thanks :)

1 Aug 2010 4:33pm

1 Aug 2010 6:42pm

Bettina from Los Angeles, United States

A wise friend, you have. That sums it up perfectly. It's your boldness that shows in your images and breaks barriers most can't. I totally see that. And it's fantastic. :)

1 Aug 2010 6:49pm

@Bettina: thx Bettina. He knows me very well, even better from the photo side, than I know myself. I really do not know what I am doing in photography, and his words mean a lot to me . His 1 email is worth million times more than a million of these funny, usually returned comments :) People on Am3 are hungry for comments and attention, without understanding the 'quality' of their work .

MadScientist from Düsseldorf, Germany

He looks like an old general on vacation. "Come here, Martha, they've got chicken!"

2 Aug 2010 7:45pm

Thierry Masson from orly, France

I don't know why your way of looking people is impolite, most of the time, i feel some tenderness.

3 Aug 2010 2:51pm

@Thierry Masson: Oh, you did not understand this reply I put to Bettina :) I do not think I am impolite looking and taking pictures of people, but in American and Canadian culture it is rather impolite . Watch your business baby ! That is how they behave . They see everything the same as me, but they pretend they see nothing :)))

Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgium

Thanks for the giggle - this guy is quite a character (and your composition with the giant roasted chicken really makes for a great capture)

3 Aug 2010 5:13pm

@Jason Kravitz: you are right . I like him .. you should see his glasses too ;)) maybe a portrait I post soon of him :) really a cool guy ;)

3 Aug 2010 5:55pm

Jeremie from Brooklyn, New York, United States

Funny shot and funny attitude. This gentleman looks particularly friendly and I'm sure he eventually got his date... One advice for him though, he should take care for his date to make sure to wear the same socks! That the lethal detail of your shot, very fun!!
