"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."

a cigarette smoker or cigarette lover or someone with nicotine addiction, that's great shot !
you know it is really true that smoking is dangerous to our health but I think cigarettes aren't killers, sometimes a cigarette is a perfect pleasure, sometimes a cigarette helps you to get a better understanding of life, most of the time I light cigarette to forget to remember. I mean I try to abstract my whole world in a cigarette and then I burn it .Sometimes lighting a cigarette is the best way to relax, and you know better than me finding ways to relax is one key to enjoying life, so light another cigarette ;)))

P.S. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, so the harmful health effects of smoking cigarettes aren't so important ;)))

@Bettina: thx a lot , Bettina .

Earl from Salisbury, NC, United States

I love when a candid portrait captures personal habits or gestures -- there's a stronger connection to the person . From looking at this photo you know she's lit her cigarettes many times using her hat to shield the wind. Nice work!

19 Jul 2010 2:26pm

@Earl: Agreed. A candid shot needs to have a story, needs to invoke some thoughts and feelings . Many thx :)

@Fonts: You know Adela, a few days ago I met one photographer who came from Toronto to Waterloo for the Jazz Festival . And when i said - I would love to live in Toronto for my candid pictures, and plus, amazing architecture I could combine with people shots, and you know what he told me - Your the best pictures would be these taken not so far away from the place you live . 19 Jul 2010 11:17pm

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

I am always amazed and at the same time saddened at how cleaver smokers become in firing up their habit. My dad was a heavy smoker and the things he would do to get his next cigarette lit showed great innovation. Unfortunately - I am older than he was when his lung cancer snuffed out his life. C'est la vie...

19 Jul 2010 11:56pm

@Stephen Phillips: C'est la vie...
