just a boy (working hard for the money )

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Henk van Rijssen from Utrecht, Netherlands

Very, very nice processing of this photo. You can see that it's nowadays but at the same time it gives an impression of times already passed by. Intriguing.
Very well done.

Ton traitement nous replonge dans le passé ! Bonne journée

29 May 2010 6:04am

Dulcie from Danville, CA, United States

The texture and detail of this back kitchen exit
is so wonderfully cluttered and detailed and rough about the edges.
The young man looks a little surprised to be having his picture taken...
he would love what you have done with it, however. Great processing !! :-)

29 May 2010 6:10am

Susan from Sausalito, United States

I think I like this more than any photograph you've taken. It is timeless. All the chaotic order of the detritus and the fresh face of the boy. There is really heroism here.

29 May 2010 6:22am

@Susan: Oh, no :)) cannot believe it is better than many before :) thx Susan :)

Babzy from Besançon, France

i really like the treatement you have chosen , very good image :)

Wonderful processing and color in this. I love your shot. Great capture of the boy looking, smiling, surrounded by the rough and squalid surroundings. Really excellent!

Shawna from Regina, Canada

Processing is very effective. Great image

29 May 2010 6:33am

k@ from Paris, France

Is it by chance the same place as for this previous image of yours ? What a strong processing, looks like an engraving with copper tones and the guy seems emerging out of a tangled chaos his smile contradicts in an interesting way !

29 May 2010 6:55am

@k@: Hey, thanks . NO, they are two different locations . This is a back side of one Chinese restaurant , looking great from main side , on King St. back door looks terrible ;)

Tede from Aubenas 07, France

Unbelievable this treatment, a picture really splendid. Beautiful day.

29 May 2010 7:11am

Fonts from Barcelona, Spain

Excellent image with good composition and teaches us a way out, possibly a kitchen. The editing procedure teaches a complicated and sad space. However be offset by the boy's smile! Well done! Mariana good morning!

29 May 2010 7:15am

macgo from Spain

Un tratamiento excelente para una fotografía que denuncia muy claramente un abuso social y que no está tan lejos de nosostros.

29 May 2010 7:25am

El pare from Prepirineu, Spain

The monochrome transports us to another time, the image also. We were many young people who worked to bring some money home. I like it.

Wow Marianna, very admirative of the fantastic post-processing you've achieved here... textures are enhanced, it really gives a great mood, almost apocalyptic, but chaos is gently softened by his lovely smile. Bravo to you dear !

29 May 2010 9:49am

Pied Crow from Nairobi, Kenya

Really nice image and processing. I think it is interesting the way you have made the young man stand out by intensifying the other elements of the image so much that he becomes sort of a quiet center.

Very nice old and filmic photo! The effect of it just makes an emphasis on his hard time for living! However, he does work hard but maybe satisfied with it as he smiles a lot!

It's the sort of photo I can (and did) look at for a long time... actually lost in the rubbish and details, feeling the souls of the creators...
