"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

This is a wonderful example of the lady thinking she is the 'bees knees''

Great capture but even better, in my estimation, without the selective colouring.

;-) richard

Superb shot, and so well spotted!

20 May 2010 9:52am

✿ Anina ✿ from New Zealand

Excellent!!! I love the selective colouring. Your processing is spot on. The two ladies in the front (left and right) almost seems like they belong in a photograph from the 50's.

20 May 2010 10:34am

Phil David Alexander Morris from Saskatoon, Canada

Proud Mary keeps on turning up.... totally wonderful capture.

20 May 2010 10:56am

Val37 from Tours, France

Chouette le traitement et le titre, bien vu Mariana !

20 May 2010 11:09am

trilliana from Munich, Germany

wow, this lady totally looks misplaced here, not only for the well processed colours but for her gesture, mimic and angle to the other passengers. very well composed. an epic picture.

20 May 2010 11:11am

JoeB from Brampton, Canada

She does stand out, making everyone else dull.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

Excellent pp treatment Mariana! The use of selective colouring is perfect for this shot! Well seen and captured! ;-)

20 May 2010 12:06pm

NaDu from Köln, Germany

Queen Elsbeth graciously visits a more proletarian quarter. Funny idea, that coloring. Let's hope her head is as brilliant as her hat.

20 May 2010 12:21pm

@NaDu: that is right . if I saw her in Toronto, or NY, I would not even notice her . But in this Mennonite little town, she looks like somebody from other planet !

Tamara from Aarschot, Belgium

Very well done, I like partially desaturated photos ! And this photo was perfect for that kind of treatment !

20 May 2010 12:31pm

Amazing use of selective color!

20 May 2010 12:56pm

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Interesting use of selective colouring. You know, the woman on the far right of the frame looks like Queen Elizabeth at first glance. Such a cool and interesting shot so full of expressions.

20 May 2010 1:03pm

mo.langel from Courtelary, Switzerland

Beautiful treatment! Superb image with the Lady in Red very elegant, but I also like the expression of two other persons! Excellent composition Mariana!

20 May 2010 1:16pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

What a true fashionista! She exudes confidence and style.

20 May 2010 1:35pm

@Amanda: You think so ? To me she is just one rich , pretentious woman, with terrible style :) I even do not know where she found these ideas. Look at this jacket, and red gloves on 20 C. Comic !

Larry Elkins from Bisbee, United States

Mariana - The problem with your composition is that it is too busy thus drawing the eye away from the main subject. The solution is your adept use of selective color. Well done. Larry

20 May 2010 1:39pm

@Larry Elkins: You think so ? Well, for candid shots one does not have so much time or chances to isolate a main subject . See, I love this girl behind . Her expression was the same as mine, thinking - who is this one ? Some actress from US ? Thx Larry !

JJ from Jersey City, United States

So eye catching brilliant use of selective coloring

20 May 2010 1:46pm

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

Excellent use of selective color, Mariana. She is a very classy looking lady.

20 May 2010 1:51pm

Pavan Kaul from Mumbai, India

Awesome capture...great processing...great work!

20 May 2010 2:01pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

Hahah! But she thinks she looks good--you can tell. I guess I'm used to people in NYC walking around wearing whatever the heck they want and thinking they look amazing... I once saw a man wearing a bathing suit, white tshirt, and a plastic tie with fake fish in it. it's all about attitude.

20 May 2010 2:06pm

@Amanda: I know what you mean . NY is NY , Toronto is Toronto. But in this little town, she looks like a miracle ;)

PRASHANT from Mumbai, India

lovely lady....beautiful work..

20 May 2010 2:11pm

NANNE NICOLAI from DAMWOUDE, Netherlands

... Or red in lady... Nice shot dear :)

20 May 2010 2:57pm

Don - SLACKWATER from spokane, United States

A fine moment to capture with the dress of the main subject and the expression of the lady behind. The spot color gives it tremendous impact. The heart of the shot is the interaction of the three people. Well done.

20 May 2010 2:58pm

Sonia Nansid from Stockholm, Sweden

Wow! Very impressive! But why the hats? Thats not so common!

20 May 2010 2:59pm

20 May 2010 3:52pm

@Curly: something like that :)

yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greece

nice processing

20 May 2010 3:57pm

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Great job in the selective coloring. It draws a great job in drawing my eyes to her. And I can't help but think that the expressions on the other ladies' faces were a result of their jealousies toward how the lady in red looked. :-)

20 May 2010 4:45pm

Isidro from Barcelona, Spain

nice selective coloring, Excellent composition!

20 May 2010 4:54pm

You certainly chose the right one to colour, she is dressed so smartly, here the selective colouring worked extremely well, put a big smile on my face!

20 May 2010 5:47pm

Willem from Noord-Scharwoude, Netherlands

Wonderful characters in this photo and as always a beautiful photo editing.

20 May 2010 5:47pm

Larry Lefever from Lititz, United States

Very fun! The red is piercing and the woman in the middle almost seems to be sticking her tongue out. :)

20 May 2010 6:00pm

Mark Johnson from Rural Colorado, United States

Wow, that is about as red as red can get! The amazing thing to me is that if the blue hat was the only thing with color, it would stand out very prominently. But with that red, the blue in the hat is barely noticeable! Great!

20 May 2010 6:08pm

Charles Dastodd from Chicago, United States

fantastic selective coloring! this is really lovely image :D

20 May 2010 6:14pm

20 May 2010 7:26pm

k@ from Paris, France

2 ladies with gloves, one all in woolen, the other all in leather, they sure would love to be important women ;) and in the middle, a third one shows them her tongue : ah, women are SO different... and funny (looking) !
I'm not fan of the selective red here but i respect it whole cause it's your choice (the only that counts !) and means you wanted us to focus on red (like a clown nose, in a way ;)

20 May 2010 7:38pm

@k@: guys too . many guys commented - elegant lady :)) as for red - I do not know . I do not like so much selective color, especially not so bright like this red, but on purpose I went with this edit . I was bad and wanted her to look terrible on this shot . Just imagine one town of 500 population, mostly Mennonites, and this lady in red walking there , visiting stores with gifts, like somebody from Mars :)

thami from Fès, Morocco

Une petite note pimentée au milieu de la fadeur du quotidien!

20 May 2010 7:42pm

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Oh my, she's so elegant it seems. I love your selective color here. Perfection!

20 May 2010 8:58pm

@Steve Rice: you are a real gentleman, Steve :)) Always, all the best for ladies :))

k@ from Paris, France

That's what i said only your choice counts, because when we propose something, there are good reasons behind as you explain here ! Let's go on like this - it's the only way : trusting our own feelings***

20 May 2010 9:01pm

@k@: sure, thx Karine . Glad we agree about it ;)

31 May 2010 9:18pm

@Inma: thx Inma . Love Chris de Burgh, that is why I took this title . Many times my title is a name of some of my favorite songs :))

Thierry Masson from orly, France

I like her severe look, remember me how i can be a little pupil, fearing that the schoolteacher find out how absent-minded I can be. Hunappily In french ther is one word to speak about the scoolteacher and "la maitresse à la fourrure", the mistress like in Sacher-Masoch.
