- Open, public place with many people taking pictures around. Tourists from US are coming to St. Jacobs too enjoy diversity of this place.

* I usually do not write anything for my pictures but adding this info to avoid any further confusion about "unwilling subject" which I just read in one of the comments .

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."

Chris Pereira from San Jose, CA, United States

great candid, I really like how you included part of the environment. That's quite a beard he has there.

@PATRICK: No HDR . Thx Patrick !

Bettina from Los Angeles, United States

Great portrait. He looks somewhat Amish. What kind of community were you in here? Fascinating. His inclined head in profile is almost saint like. Just missing the halo. :)

@Bettina: Just a Farmers market, my fav place to go on Saturday morning !

Dulcie from Danville, CA, United States

Fonts from Barcelona, Spain

Gorgeous face and wonderful gesture of this man. A very beautiful composition. In fact the expression of man does not seem hard. It has an extreme softness in her beautiful profile. A friendly smile and thoughtful! I love the editing Mariana! Best regards, Adela

12 Apr 2010 6:33am

@Fonts: thx Adela . His face attracted me a lot .

Phil from Sausset les Pins, France

He seems so tired , and aware , nice human portrait , Phil.

12 Apr 2010 7:05am

NaDu from Köln, Germany

Is he real or on a poster? With his beard and his head he seems to come from long gone times. Anyway: a striking portrait with vivid colors.

12 Apr 2010 7:06am

@NaDu: he is a very REAL man :) Thx NAdu ;)

Nina from Haute Loire, France

A man in full effort! This photo looks across time as something timeless!

12 Apr 2010 7:15am

k@ from Paris, France

Like a romantic painting, what an superb expression he has, yet heavy, he doesn't seem to feel it but to be in his deepest thoughts, and calm, serene. Maybe his religion helps him going through hard job or times ? Big mess in the reflections behind enhance his own quiet inner mood.

12 Apr 2010 7:21am

@k@: thanks Karine. Am always glad to read your so thoughtful comment .

12 Apr 2010 9:23am

Marlowe from Le Havre, France

A profile surprising, as an icon or a bas-relief. I think of a shepherd holding a lamb in his arms (as in the grotto of the nativity).

12 Apr 2010 9:43am

@Marlowe: what a lovely comment Mr. Marlowe. I felt the same when first saw this man .

Florence from Paris, France

A nice portrait with a with special and eye-catching post-processing. Looks alile modern painting somehow.

12 Apr 2010 2:27pm

Susan from Sausalito, United States

Remarkable image. He looks as if he will turn to face the camera any second. The burden of the large bag on his lap only accentuates his face. He is deep in thought--and seems more dreamy than your title suggests. I envy you this one as I do many of your photographs.

12 Apr 2010 2:47pm

@Susan: thx Susan . I am in love with this photo / character !

Superb shot Mariana, and I admit, I myself first thought about an Amish :)
Now, the doubt was only for a micro sec, for the one who dare judge or anything, they should watch a few beautiful shots your made in the past, some B&W nude who are still fascinating me :)

You are a talented photographer Mariana, it's a simple fact.

12 Apr 2010 4:15pm

Excellent portrait, Mariana. I lived 2 years in Lancaster PA, home to a large population of amish. The farmers market there was one of my favorite places to go. I miss that very much. This brings back great memories.

some people just don't like to have their pictures taken. some people don't even like to be looked at. photographers have to take the good with the bad. but thats the price you pay to get a great shot.
