Who is your Valentine?

*

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

14 Feb 2010 7:09am

k@ from Paris, France

I like a lot the interaction between her pout and the little boy pic, as if she was thinking of him yet he's so young. And the opposition with the second girl smiling tell the story of this commercial day, those who have, those who haven't, and those who need a special day to think of who they love (I called it a Silly Sunday on my page ;)) And you composed your own bunch wit a superb foreground of colorful flowers !

Beautiful colors! Ahh, to be there and to smell them would have been awesome!

14 Feb 2010 4:21pm

beautiful color! absolutely superb, Mariana. I have always preferred orange, yellow, and white roses over red and pink ones. these are lovely and lush and I love how you have creates a frame along the bottom of edge of the photo. nicely done!

14 Feb 2010 4:32pm

John from Geneva, United States

Not a stunning shot, but I love it. The roses (I think they're roses) of a different color, the photo of the boy in the background with the flowers, and the look of the girl as her focus is on something behind the flowers is a beautiful combination in my eyes.

14 Feb 2010 5:46pm

@John: ha ha .. thanks anyway :)) I really wish to see a photo you think it is a stunning one :) please, send me a link of this shot ;) Would love to see your taste :) Besides, in all this picture only one thing is important to understand it and my title , and this is a face of this girl . Do you think she has her Valentine ? What do you think how single people feel on this day or any other day , without her/ his love ? The whole point of this shot and title is in this pretty, and very sad face :))

El pare from Prepirineu, Spain

Mariana, A nice way to say ... I love you!!!
I love your nice coloured and tender pic. Well done.

14 Feb 2010 6:59pm

Ana Lúcia from Leiria, Portugal

The color is startlingly rich.

14 Feb 2010 8:32pm

Gary from Cochise County, United States

I disagree with John, This IS a stunning shot. There is mood, color, story and much to think about as you look at this. I think maybe your right. The Dad is out of the picture, but better times and a better man will come.

14 Feb 2010 8:35pm

@Gary: You are sweet Gary. I am not starving for stunning pictures , but for pictures with emotions and story within . And I find very sad and interesting story in this compo , but one only needs to get it. Unfortunately many people do not, or have no time to take a deeper look ! thx for your reading of this image the way I do ;)) Cheers !

14 Feb 2010 9:05pm

Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United States

The quality of this image is excellent - but the photograph in the photograph turns this image on its ear. It strikes me as ironic, thought provoking, and a little humorous. An interesting and well produced study. Very cool, Mariana.

14 Feb 2010 9:05pm

Marcie from United States

She has such a sad expression..as if she wishes she had someone or something. Excellent street scene!

14 Feb 2010 9:31pm

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

I probably shouldn't say this but I can't resist...why don't the people who say things like "not a stunning shot" take stunning shots themselves? Is it because they only know which ones aren't and not which ones are? What is the point in such a remark? Should every shot posted be a "stunning shot?" And again, if that is the case, how come all the shots they post aren't stunning? And every shot posted doesn't have to be a stunning shot, what is the point in saying a particular shot is not stunning? In any case here, it's not the graphic quality of the image that is relevant, but the emotion it contains and the thought behind it.

14 Feb 2010 9:42pm

@Twelvebit: Twelve, I am the same as you , and I cannot resist visiting those people who are leaving 1* from 5 to my pictures, or saying - this is a bad taste shot, or - not bad, etc ... to go to visit their photos. And, not only the last one but many to see if there is anything I like to better understand their comment . After finding nothing interesting to me , I wonder how come that these are so brave to leave these bad comments on my pictures. And the answer is usually very clear - they do not understand my pictures, for they are not pretty flowers or sunsets , or landscape .....( there is nothing to think , but admire colors .. colors .. colors .. ) Thx for your support !

✿ Anina ✿ from Auckland, New Zealand

One sad girl and one happy. You have captured this beautifully. It's so true: to some people Valentine's day is a happy day and to others it's a sad day. I love the colours and the beautiful roses. Personally I feel we should all treat our loved ones (and friends) as if it is Valentine's day everyday.

14 Feb 2010 9:50pm

Reno from Madrid-Paris, Spain

Oh yes there is something very sad in this gesture of the girl...it's record me the women of García Lorca, always waiting for a new comer (Valentine)

Brilliant composition ! The expression on the lady's face is such a contrast to that of the smiling boy in the picture in the background..

15 Feb 2010 2:34am

JoeB from Brampton, Canada

This reminded me of a female co-worker who said she had no one to be with on Valentines day, my heart broke for her at that moment. My concern is with holidays that put certain emphasis on how to behave and what to buy. I prefer to surprise in between these so called holiday's, so if i give something I do actually mean it. Not a stunning image :) but I do love her moment of melancholy.

15 Feb 2010 2:34am

@JoeB: teaser :))))

Pomme from France

Superbes ces roses oranges, j'aime beaucoup :)

15 Feb 2010 7:06pm

Amanda from Jersey City, United States

Such a laughable holiday--so forced and generic. :) But I do feel bad for those that feel depressed for being single on this day, like this young lady. I'm hoping she has someone in her life that loves her, this little boy perhaps, but isn't caught up in the hype of Valentine's Day. Afterall, those we truly love or those that truly love us, should show it every day...not just once a year. :)

15 Feb 2010 8:12pm

Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United States

I hope she has a Valentine. Nice color, filled with flower, like being inside a flower shop.

15 Feb 2010 11:13pm
