Life may never be the same at her journey's end

Canon EOS 40D 1/160 second F/11.0 ISO 100 85 mm

*

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."
~ Andre Kertesz

Chris Pereira from San Jose, CA, United States

i like the old vintage look here, I think it served the photograph well.

That is a heavy, somber image, Mariana. It is a soul-searcher. She is going right down the middle of the road. Perfect tones.

11 Jan 2010 5:48am

Stéphane Themeze from Maryland, United States

A beautiful picture! Like an illustration of a tale of a quest. I do not see loss in it but a quest again and a road that can be promising if one knows where to start and what is to be found at the end of it.

Good Day to You Mariana.

Makan from Iran

This is really great! Great choice of tone and texture. love how the title match perfectly with the image, I do love the way you try to tell a story with your pictures, maybe your aim is to highlight wandering through the life or our life philosophy, a complicated subject, it's hard to explain, but I try… we know all religions attempt to explain creation, life, and death, but it's not a general rule, Some times we get lost by our beliefs and emotions, some times we go off in the wrong direction and often bump into wall, some times we don't know why we go on. some times we don't search for truth, some times a hidden connection is stronger than an obvious one. some times we can't control our destiny, we have to trust our soul, some times our only goal is just TO BE, there's only now, there's only here…
when I look closely enough to this picture, I could discover amazing things! I see a woman walking in a straight line vs. trees that go wandering forth in all directions with every wind, it sounds good, keep walking in straight line…

PS, "This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness."

11 Jan 2010 8:27am

@Makan: thx a lot for following my work and expressing your thought / opinions !

Religion is for some but not for all. There are times in one's life when religion are important and times when it's discarded.
I see a woman striding with purpose down a long straight road ... No distractions and no chance to meander. Showing determination when there is no support, no encouragement. Just the sojourn towards her personal end game. Not everyone is so postive and single minded. Human strength I guess ...

Super strong processing, not only the warm & also mysterious yellowish tone (superb) but the pace of that figure (did you add her, by the way ?), and for me this image does not speak of religion in its basic definition but larger one, for me this mystical image speaks of Faith in Life, and Love, and Humanity... Powerful !

SOUL AFLAME from The bosom of Mother Nature, United Kingdom

Bare flesh pounding the gravel track as tears cascaded down across flushed cheeks, wiped hurriedly away as the avenue of trees bowed one by one. A dream, a nightmare, a crossroads in her life, she felt unsure of the relevance right here, right now, but in both mind and heart, she knew that she must walk towards the distant horizon and discover the force driving her onwards, pulling her ultimately towards whatever fate had in store..... Life may never be the same at her journey's end.

Powerful, Mariana and capable of setting off so many ideas and stories in my head

11 Jan 2010 3:11pm

@SOUL AFLAME: Thx Paul . Your comment gives me an idea of a new title - Life may never be the same at her journey's end.

The purposeful stride and the shawl blown aside give this person a strong physical appearance. The deep toning adds a sense foreboding that is pronounced. A very strong image.

11 Jan 2010 5:46pm

Nadu-Dosenöffner from Köln, Germany

Oh, you dropped the REM. So I'm alone with your photo and the lonely woman on the road. Though I'm poor talented (amongst many other things) in religious business, the lost-and-new-beginning-feeling of the REM-headlline coincidenced close to your image. The grainy and noisy surface amplifies this strong road motive as the color reduction and the far far perspective does. Gratulations

11 Jan 2010 5:53pm

@Nadu-Dosenöffner: Thanks Nadu . Last night when uploaded this image , I was in a mood for that Title and song and I put a few lines of the REM's beautiful song ! Today , shame on me, I see it differently .. I see a hope and light in the future, at the end of her journey !!! Couple more friends also suggested they do not agree with title, and they were right :))) I respected their thoughts and changed the title !!! Sorry :))

Nina from Haute Loire, France

This photo is a novel! It lets the imagination wander, that's the goal ... Wonderful suggestion!

Great processing, your shot is a little too sad for me ! But It's a godd work ! Have a nice day !

11 Jan 2010 6:24pm

@Val37: sad or happy , does it really matter? ... To me the essence of one picture is to invoke emotions , to keep you staring at it while stories are coming to your head :))) The most beautiful landscape is just something one can see everywhere on the website , and competition is very high !

Ooh, very dark and disturbing places to go. Wonderful moody processing Mariana, looks like a duotone with a texture overlay. Quite masterful.

11 Jan 2010 7:42pm

@Curly: Just a couple months ago I was very confident posting a picture from the same place , but with some awful processing . I am really happy being on Aminus and looking at other people's pictures I learn every day something new. far from masterful, but also far from my pictures posted a few months ago :))
Many thanks Curly !

Nothing abstract here!, what do we see a woman in a poncho on a dirt road (maybe buying her eggs). Conceptual; oké. Indeed the balance between subject and processing is superbe. Chapeau Marina!

11 Jan 2010 8:02pm

@Peter: well, i put this shot in 'abstract category' because of the processing way .. thx Peter . Btw, I am Mariana, not Marina :)) !

Mariana, when I saw your picture I remembered a Catalan photographer and I really like. I searched my library to find his book of photographs. I'll give your name if you want to investigate ... you'll like it! His name is Joaquim Pla Janini (1879-1970), a figure in European photography born in Catalonia. I hope you can find information! Mariana, this is indeed a very powerful image. So moving! I think it is quite striking and so very well done. And it is indeed a tad depressing. You have definitely succeeded in creating a memorable photo. You will have to share with me some time your secret for processing!

sakshi from Boston, United States

You know what? You can put up a contest with every single pic you post. Everyone gets a different story in their mind when they see your well done photographs and that's what I call a masterpiece. In my mind your pic evokes the image of a woman called Professional Mourner back in my homeland India. These are women who are considered from the lowest caste and they are hired to cry during funerals. Ohh the cruelty we do on fellow humans is endless :(

12 Jan 2010 3:28pm

@sakshi: wow.. wow.. what a compliment :)) Hugs and kisses to you for this ! And , thanks for sharing this story . Sound very unusual and very interesting !

Great processing and title, this woman walking to a end we don't see (or not exist), this yellow tone and the texture (like expresses the time and history), a trip as philosophy or research: i haven't got the words in english so to express...but lots of emotions/thinkings !

Indeed a mysterious picture.
I keep looking at it and can't find it. Great processing of the picture, which creates a very special mood.
I might be wrong but have the impression that the walking woman is "too small" for the rest of the photo. I have th efeeling that at the position she's walking she should be bigger. But it makes the photo itself so much stronger.
Absolute top!!
