He will never be an old man.

*

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."

There can be two meanings of your title on the picture, as I understand it? I hope the color of his coat similar to that of the railings low down, don´t mean that he will slip on those snowy stairs...?

LESLIE from norwich, United Kingdom

Lovely shot Mariana ~ just the sort of thing my FATHER would do & he's 87

4 Jan 2010 2:10pm

@LESLIE: I met this gentleman after taking a few candid shots . He is 90, and on this very cold day he came to Waterloo park to celebrate 100 years of his parents' arrival to Canada from Scotland . We spent at least 2 hours together , walking, laughing, telling stories to each other .... When he told me he is a preacher man I even sang for him a beautiful, one of my dearest songs by Aretha Franklin - Son Of A Preacher Man :)))

Ralph Jones from Detroit, United States

Thanks to both of you for proving that old is a relative term.

I was invited to share his dinner .. ;)) Something else - his father built this park , and this land belongs to his family ... he was in a park to celebrate 100 years of his parents' arrival to Waterloo from Scotland !!!

SOUL AFLAME from The bosom of Mother Nature, United Kingdom

In his mind, he is seventeen eternally, with rippling muscles and a heart full of dreams, a head full of notions. The years as pages in the book of his life, read as memories to those who take the time to stop and listen, to talk to the man with a rich past, a tapestry of enlightenment and family ties to the land he loves. Though limbs now ache, frail and tormented by the icy steps he descends so cautiously, though the pain of loss endured along a lifetime full and varied, pricks a conscience and prompts a tear, his heart is laden with love and happiness, a joy for life. And in his mind he shall be seventeen, eternally.

4 Jan 2010 3:32pm

@SOUL AFLAME: How lovely, and how true !!!! Trust me Paul, I was amused by this old / young man, and need to visit him in his own Calvary United Church. I loved his stories !

don from spokane, United States

A fine shot of this gentleman managing the snowy steps to come down the stairs. I like your viewpoint for this shot that has so much appeal. Your comment later of spending time with him was very revealing of how we human share "life" at every age. Like all of us, the inside person does not seem as old as the years that have passed. A fine picture and comment on life.
