If the picture matters, the Camera matters ?

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS 1/60 second F/3.5 ISO 200 19 mm

"The moment always dictates in my work. What I feel, I do. This is the most important thing for me. Everybody can look, but they don't necessarily see. I never calculate or consider; I see a situation and I know that it's right, even if I have to go back to get the proper lighting."

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

And if the camera matters, it must be a Nikon; right?? Tell him to get out of Program mode. (Hope you know that I am joking!!) Terrific shot. Nice and in tight. Superb detail.

21 Aug 2009 6:13am

@john4jack: ha ha ... Hey, did you check on the right side what camera I have :)) Who cares for camera; Eye is more important !

john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United States

PS - I think that Canon produces a better P&S than does Nikon. Am glad to see that the G11 that is due out in October will drop the megapixels down to 10 (my G10 has way too much noise); also the return of the swivel LCD is good news. Maybe I will give my G10 to one of our boys (I say boys; they go from 35 to 45) and spring for the G11.

I definitely saw your camera before a wrote a word; that's why I couldn't resist my smartass comment. Clearly the eye is way, way, way, way, way more important than the camera.

@john4jack: ha ha ..yes, but I really wish to have a better one , maybe this one from picture :)))

Yikes, his lens is wet. Gives me chills, I can't afford to replace mine any old time. Great photo, BTW. I like this a lot.

21 Aug 2009 2:18pm

Don from spokane, United States

A strong photo that vividly shows the tension and concentration a photographer has when taking pictures.
His hand position suggests that he may be checking the depth of field. An excellent shot.

21 Aug 2009 2:38pm

PD from Overland Park, Kansas, United States

Nice shot, great concentration! Looks like a Nikon D300? but it is getting wet!!

Nice shot Mariana. Nice to see it was taken on a damp day - cameras are to be used no matter what the weather. ( Anyone can take a photo but it takes a good eye to take a picture )

A very intense shot where you can see the diligence of the photographer as he's trying to get the right shot while in the rain. I had to laugh at Jack's first comment above. :-)

21 Aug 2009 9:53pm

Stephane Themeze from Maryland, United States

I'm a purist of some sort but I do adapt to circumstances...All things considered, only the result matters, but it can be difficult if you don't have what's right for you to achieve besides the "obvious" 3rd eye.
Funny how we all look the same behind a camera...hidden...

21 Aug 2009 10:11pm

Liang from San Francisco, United States

Looks like he's taking shots at extreme weather conditions, something very difficult to do. nice one!

22 Aug 2009 3:06am

hugo poon from hong kong, Hong Kong

Of course the camera matters Mariana - the smaller and much less obtrusive camera helps you get this wonderful shot unnoticed!:-)))) Love the expression... so absorbed and concentrated... superb angle and composition, as always! Happy shooting!:-)

22 Aug 2009 3:25am

Chris Pereira from San Jose, CA, United States

great shot, I dont know much about nikons but i sure hope thats a weather sealed body and lens.

22 Aug 2009 4:02am

Sugata from Newark, United States

Wonderful shot - full of concentration! Personally, I prefer Canon to Nikon as far as P&S are concerned, and prefer Sony to both. I have never used a Nikon SLR/DSLR. I have used film SLRs by Pentax and Canon, and prefer the former. The only DSLR that I have ever used is a Canon, and I am not very satisfied with it.

22 Aug 2009 4:02am

@Sugata: So, did you try each of these cameras, or you might have all of these ? Wow.. you know all about them . Good for you :)) See , I have 300 $ canon, and even do not dream of these expensive cameras, but I still love my photos :)) Thanks !

hamzeh oliazadeh from Iran

Beautiful shot.....

22 Aug 2009 4:36am

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Excellent shot! Perfect angle and exposure! :)
When it comes to camera..... I think it's the person behind lens/camera that matters the most!
I've always admired your photos and I know that you use only point and shoot - I want that camera!!! (and your eye) :)))

22 Aug 2009 3:18pm

@Magda: Oh, that Magda :)) That was too kind of you :))

lydia from Paris, France

Yes , you are right , we are pretty the same today ! Great picture !

23 Aug 2009 2:50am

23 Aug 2009 4:32am

23 Aug 2009 4:33am

Scotfot from Kabul, Afghanistan

Only the picture matters... this is a great shot!

23 Aug 2009 12:07pm

Sugata from Newark, United States

No, I just own a Pentax manual film SLR (actually my father's) and a Sony P&S which must have been less than $300 when I bought it. I have used Canon and Nikon point-and-shoots from other people, and the Canon film SLR is my cousin's. The Canon DSLR is my office's - I was serving as a photographer in an office for the summer and so got to use the DSLR for a month and a half.

23 Aug 2009 3:22pm

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Great shot. I think what counts is getting out there, in any weather, like this guy (and you) and getting the picture.

24 Aug 2009 3:48pm

Vanilla Wine from las vegas, United States

Great capture, I like it

25 Aug 2009 4:08pm

Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, Mexico

I read a quote yesterday that says: The best camera is the one you have with you when you need it. In other words, it's a matter of timing and being ready, no matter what you have as a camera.

26 Aug 2009 4:09pm

Jim Wilson from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Just love this shot Mariana, the intense concentration on the photographers face makes it for me !!!!!
